DC Builders Wigan, David Connor contacted me after I posted a job for an extension on social media. They came, quoted for the job, and gave a detailed step-by-step plan of what they would do and who they would use for each stage. They said they needed a £30,000 deposit as the windows I requested were a "special order" and colour, and they needed to order materials etc. We agreed a start date, but they kept delaying it. I got nervous, and I called the window company directly as I assumed they would be delayed with the build. The window company didn't know who I was, and no money had been paid to them for the windows. This was challenged with the builders, and I was told the window company made an error. I called them back, and they 100% confirmed that no order or payment had been placed. The following day, there was another delay, and I called them to discuss. Another builder who is linked to them, Andrew Dunn, called me in a panic and told me not to give David Connor any more money as they had money problems. I then called the groundman, whom they subcontracted to, and he said he hadn't been paid, hence why he hadn't started. I called David Connor, who didnt repsond and I left a voicemail saying it was urgent. I heard nothing for 24 hours then got a call to say he had been arrested. In the meantime, I contacted my banks, where I paid the deposits from and logged 2 fraud cases. I told David this and he said he spent my money on other jobs and used my money for cashflow. Both banks have awarded in my favour and classed this as a fraud case.
Full extension promised and no work started.
My calls, business whatsapp as he never answered calls.
Formally classes as fraud by 2 banks and reported to trading standards and Crime Fraud.
Everyone to be aware that this doesn't happen to other people.
