Experience description

Liam Stone contacted me in February 2026. He got my details of Bark. I wanted a downstairs bathroom and porch building, plus conversion of another room. He started on 18th February. Total quoted £27,500. Request deposit and interim payments. Laid new floor in the conversion. Completed brickwork for the bathroom and porch. He stopped turning up to do the work making excuse after excuse. This was after paying a total of £20,500 at various times. He asked for varying amounts for materials. We have tried contacting him and have sent pre legal letters. Reported him to police and Trading Standards. We have had to take loans out to the tune of £50,000 to get the work completed. I believe we are able to sue for £20,500 plus for recompense for having to pay for the work to be put right/completed.

Work promised vs work done

Conversion of storage room to office space. Needs wall insulation, new pitched roof. New doors and windows. New floor. Only floor completed. Bathroom. Brick work completed. No roof. No Floor. Waste drain completed, I paid for a drainage survey to be done and it passed inspection. Porch. Brick work completed, although some brickwork needs altering. No roof windows or doors. No flooring. Gas metre requires moving to outside wall.

Attempts to resolve

Phone calls. Emails text messages.

Current situation

We have had to take out loans to the total of £50,000 to resolve any issues and complete the build. The new builder starts on 23rd November.

Ideal resolution

To recoup the £20,500 paid to the builder and recoup as much of the £50,000 loan money as possible.
