Experience Description
We first met Shane Naylor in May 2023 about a porch and later expanded to a loft conversion with roof replacement. Shane was professional at first, outlining stages and promising completion before Christmas. After delays with drawings, we paid deposits and moved out with our two young children, expecting an 8-week job. Initial progress soon gave way to long gaps, excuses, and broken promises. Despite paying over £50,000, far more than we originally planned, the roof leaked, flooding occurred, and progress stalled. By January 2024 I was forced to work on the house myself. Shane repeatedly promised the job would be finished soon but often failed to even show up. By April, after allowing four extra months, I started legal action.
Work Promised vs Work Done
Many parts remain unfinished: roof still leaks, fascia/soffits/gutters missing, plastering incomplete, and loft windows improperly fitted. Bathroom only had first-fix plumbing, with soil pipes left unconnected. Electrics and finishing works were never completed. Large sections of existing plasterwork and décor were damaged, requiring costly repairs. Despite paying over £50,000, much of the work was left incomplete or poorly done, leaving the house in a worse condition than before.
Attempts to Resolve the issue
For months I chased Shane, trying to resolve delays and negotiate completion. I paid him repeatedly, often on demand, even beyond the original budget, in hope of progress. After receiving full payment on the original estimate, he continued to promise completion “next week” but almost never arrived. By early 2024, I issued a final warning email and deadlines. He ignored these, continued making excuses, and eventually abandoned the site. I filed a CCJ which he ignored, later claiming he had no fixed address. When pressed for repayment, he became aggressive, swore at me, and threatened to come to my home if I continued pursuing him.
Current Situation
I am still seeking repayment through legal channels. Shane has left us with an unfinished, leaking loft conversion and significant damage to our home. He continues to make threats against me, my partner, and my children—saying he will show up at our doorstep if I pursue recovery of funds. The financial and emotional toll has been severe: months of living in unsuitable conditions, paying more than £50,000 for incomplete work, and dealing with intimidation instead of resolution.
Ideal Resolution:
I want full repayment of the money paid for incomplete work, plus to never hear from Shane again. The project caused financial loss, severe stress, and months of disruption for my young family. A fair resolution would mean recovering funds so we can finally repair and complete our home safely, without further harassment or threats.
